A 26-year-old woman was arrested Monday after allegedly leaving her two sons in her car unsupervised for 40 minutes while visiting a friend, police said.

At 1:55 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of Shelton Street, where the children, who were one and six years old, respectively, had managed to exit the car and walk around the neighborhood and in the parking area of an apartment complex across the street, said Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz.

The mother, identified as Liliana Garcia, was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The boys were released to the custody of their father, Ruiz said.
