Un latigazo de Eder en la prórroga le dio a Portugal su primer título internacional al consagrarse campeona de la Eurocopa el domingo con un triunfo 1-0 sobre Francia.
A los 109 minutos, Eder definió con un derechazo desde fuera del área para que los portugueses festejasen en la misma casa de Francia, pese a que jugaron casi todo el partido sin su talismán Cristiano Ronaldo debido una lesión.
Eder, un centrodelantero que milita en el fútbol francés con Lille, había ingresado por Renato en el tramo final del tiempo reglamentario y de inmediato fue un dolor de cabeza constante para la zaga francesa. En el gol, logró sacarse la marca del central Samuel Umtiti antes de sacar el remate que batió al arquero Hugo Lloris.
Desde el banco luso, el capitán Cristiano celebró eufórico y vio los últimos minutos del partido de pie en la zona técnica. Doce años después que viviera en carne propia la amargura de que Portugal sucumbiera de local por idéntico marcador ante Grecia, salía campeón con su selección por primera vez.
Cristiano se lastimó la rodilla en una entrada del mediocampista francés Dimitri Payet a los ocho minutos. El astro portugués del Real Madrid cayó al suelo de inmediato agarrándose la pierna y con lágrimas de dolor, y tras intentar volver a jugar un par de veces —la última con una rodillera— fue sacado en camillas mientras lloraba desconsolado.
