Lakeside Golf Club served as the venue for the women of the La Providencia Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ 2017 annual summer meeting, luncheon and fashion show this past Saturday.

Presented under the theme, “The Guild’s Gorgeous, Glamorous Goddesses,” the event sees guild members model fashions available at the CHLA Thrift Shop located on Burbank Boulevard.

Managed by guild volunteers, all proceeds generated by the thrift shop benefit the work of the renowned pediatric hospital.

Welcomed by Lynn White-Shelby, guild president, Glenda Jones, vice president, Suzanne Lapis, who serves as the director of affiliates at CHLA, and the event’s co-chairwomen, Sue Ann Gordon and Rosemarie Witten, guild members were updated about the organization’s current projects of raising funds for CHLA’s rehabilitation medicine and sarcoma program.

The hospital’s division of rehabilitative medicine offers a full-spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services that help children with a wide range of disorders regain as much function as possible while achieving a sense of independence and well-being.

The hospital’s bone and soft-tissue tumors program provides one of the country’s most well-rounded cancer treatment programs, caring for more children than any other pediatric hospital west of the Mississippi River.

They treat both benign and malignant tumors, with the goal of using minimally-invasive techniques and provide leading-edge technology and comprehensive treatment for patients with cancerous tumors that includes chemotherapy and surgery, as well as support from social workers, therapists and child-life specialists.

Last week’s fashion show, emceed by Irene Metzger, saw guild members and a special guest, Lauren Rowlands, the daughter of guild member Dee Dee Rowlands, model fashions and accessories.

Members who strutted the thrift shop wares included Sandra Kelley, Donna Sagona Salant, Doris Palmer, Janice Krattiger, Juana Ballenger, Linda Viebahn, Janice Shafer, Jill Kessler and Beth Bowles.

Among others who made the day a success were Judy Pierce, Cindy Birch, Veronica Chavoor, Malena Tappan, Shanna Warren and Linda Wilson, who served on the event committee, as well as assisting members Ming Liu, Peg Setti, Teresa and Diana Garcia, Roxanne Gunther, Christy Morse, Nancy Eggers, Marylouise Valdes and Debbi Lowman.

The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Thrift Shop, located at 3301 Burbank Blvd., is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Volunteers sell and accept donations of good-conditioned household items, men’s, women’s and children’s clothes as well as accessories, jewelry, toys, collectibles and furniture.
