Group compiles services booklet for veterans

Share

A group of volunteers with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is compiling a resource booklet on services available to military veterans in Burbank.

Judy Pike is chairwoman of the Volunteers for Veterans and their Families. The purpose of the group is to identify the services available to men and women of all ages who have returned to civilian life after serving their country.

“We want to find out what is missing and be able to provide that in our community,” Pike said.

Other plans include creation of a job bulletin where employers can post qualifications that match the skills veterans have learned during their military careers.

Future plans are to secure a storefront location where veterans and their families can come to find out about services, sponsor job fairs to help veterans assimilate back into the work force, and having a mixer to link veterans with volunteer organizations in the community.

To have your service added to the booklet, email information to rsvpvols4vets@gmail.com.

New officers lead parade

Carey Briggs is the new president of Burbank on Parade. The other officers are Wayne Poirier, vice-president/creative director; David Freedman, treasurer; and Trudy Swearingen, secretary.

The parade committee is seeking new members. The parade is an all-city celebration and the committee needs volunteers who represent all the different segments of people who live and work in Burbank.

Volunteers are needed to generate creative ideas for fund-raising, as well as recruiting more participants to appear in the parade and encouraging more float entries to be built.

The next meeting is at 6 p.m. July 31, at the Burbank Historical Society Museum, which is next door to the Creative Arts Center in Izay Park on Clark Avenue.
