On the Town: Leadership group dresses up its fundraiser

Take over the entire top floor of the office tower known as the Pointe, fill it with 250 of the city’s government and business movers and shakers dressed as witches, devils, pirates, goths, ghouls, goblins, clowns and various pop-culture icons, throw in the musical showmanship of the Spazmatics, have it all benefit a good cause, and what do you get? You get one of the best darn parties Burbank has seen in years.

Staged as a fundraiser for Leadership Burbank, a community-based organization that offers a nine-month program to assist people in enhancing their personal and professional skills and gain a deeper understanding of how Burbank works, Saturday evening’s Spectacular Costume Party at the Top of the Pointe was chaired by Barry Gussow.

Notables who enjoyed the ghoulish gathering peppered with props and furnishings used in the 2010 Warner Bros. film, “Inception,” included former Mayor Bill Wiggins and his wife, Marilyn, City Clerk Zizette Mullins, City Treasurer Debbie Kukta, school board member Roberta Reynolds, Interim City Manager Ray Krakowski and his wife, Tricia, Airport Commissioner Sue Georgino, Chamber of Commerce President Gary Olson and his wife, Sharon, and Burbank Leader Editor Dan Evans and his wife, Donna.

Others who made the evening a spooktacular success included Marcia Amoroso, Ernest and Angela Burger, Michael Thomas, Michael Walbrecht, Terry Walker, Lee and Valerie Wochner, Karen Volpei, Rick and Janette Meyer, Harry and Diane Campbell, Dean and Lynn Shelby, Armond Aghakhanian, Tim and Barbara Stehr, Rey and Gema Sanchez, Shanna Warren and Burbank Temporary Aid Center Director Barbara Howell who, deliciously dressed as a formal feast, walked away with the evening’s best-costume honors.
