Community news: Kiwanis supports Family Service, Girl Scouts to march in Rose parade, Kailee Frocchi recognized, Moose Lodge collects toys
Burbank Sunrise Kiwanis is the host of the annual Mayors Cup Charity Golf Tournament each spring. All proceeds from this golf tournament are donated back to the community.
One of the recipients is the Family Service Agency, and recently Executive Director Laurie Bleick received a check that was part of a five-year pledge made by the service club to the agency that provides counseling services to public school children, individuals and families.
Other community charities that receive donations from the Sunrise Kiwanis Club are Burbank Boys & Girls Club, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Foundation (Children’s Miracle Network), Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Counseling for Kids, Burbank Salvation Army, YMCA and the Kids Dental Clinic.
They also present several scholarships each year to John Burroughs High School seniors who are in the Kiwanis Key Club. They also support Kiwanis K-Kids at the Burbank Boys & Girls Club. Every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas they adopt six families to purchase food and gifts for the holidays.
Guests can attend the meetings, which are from 7 to 8 a.m. each Wednesday at DeBell Clubhouse.
Girl Scouts to march in Rose parade
Several area Girl Scouts will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day.
They are Heather Ross of Burbank, Sarah Hill and Sophia Pereyra, both of Glendale, Anastasia Dewar, Lauren Galantai and Jenna Schwartz, all of La Cañada Flintridge and Noel Wong of La Crescenta.
The young women have all received their Gold Award, the organization’s highest in honor, qualifying them for the Tournament Troop, which carries the banners announcing the award-winning floats in the parade. Boy Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout are also members.
Teen named Emerging Leader
Burbank teen Kailee Frocchi has been named an Emerging Leader by Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles in recognition of her outstanding extracurricular and academic accomplishments.
Kailee joined nearly 100 additional Emerging Leaders and hundreds of the most accomplished women in Los Angeles for a luncheon and day of mentorship early in December at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood. The event concluded a year of celebration honoring the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA.
Kailee has been a Girl Scout for 11 years and has earned the Girl Scout Silver and Bronze Awards. She feels that Girl Scouting has given her the opportunity to work with others and practice brainstorming as a group. She is a member of the Girl Scouts’ FIRST FRC robotics team 4019 and is team captain. She is also a member of Civil Air Patrol and the Interscholastic Equestrian League. A student at Bridges Academy in Studio City, she loves learning about the science of aviation and hopes to have a career in aeronautical engineering

Moose Lodge collects 400 toys
The Burbank Moose Lodge hosted its annual Christmas Toy Drive on Dec.15 for the Family Service Agency of Burbank. About 400 toys were collected, said Page Moseley, chairman of the toy collection committee.
The contributing organizations were: the men and women of the Burbank Moose Lodge, the Jack Maeby Band, the Schmang-a-Dang Band, led by Moose Lodge member Page Moseley; the Ol’ Fashioned East Coast Family Christmas Party, led by Moose Lodge member Derek Jones; the Pete Anderson Band, led by Moose Lodge member Pete Anderson; and the Third Thursday Tournament, hosted by Jay Moriarty, who is also a member of the Moose Lodge.
