YMCA campaign will update facility

The Burbank Community YMCA launched the Community Campaign phase of its “Strong Today, Stronger Tomorrow” Capital Campaign on Thursday, March 7, at the Colony Theatre. The goal is to raise funds to enhance the facility and programs at the Y, officials said.

“I’m excited that our volunteers are confident in our ability to meet this aggressive goal of raising $300,000,” said JC Holt, chief executive officer. “The benefits to the Burbank community are much greater than the dollars raised. When you consider this Y touches more than 14,000 lives each year, we’re a great investment.”

To date, Y officials have raised more than $1.6 million from the pacesetter donors. The Y is tackling projects as the money is raised.

The projects completed are the gym refurbishing, a domestic hot-water system and new family changing room. The grand reopening of the gym will be at 6 p.m. Friday, March 15, with basketball activities for children, teens and adults.

Projects yet to be completed are the Aquatic Center refurbishing, new welcome center and upgrades to the Child Development Center.

There will be a family hike at Stough Nature Center at 9:30 a.m. March 30. Events are free of charge. For other events, visit www.burbankymca.org.

“It’s so important for everyone in Burbank to know what we are doing at the Y and to give their support if they can.” said Yvette Herrera, director of Philanthropy and Community Engagement.
