It was a magical mix — more than 160 talented young singers and musicians, a dedicated director, committed parents, supportive family members, friends and alumni and an eclectic mix of pop, rock and show tunes.
Those elements came together and it made for quite a night — as the Burbank High School's Vocal Music Assn. staged its 17th annual “Night of Magic” fundraiser at Pickwick Gardens this past week.
Beginning with a spectacular silent auction featuring more than 200 gift baskets, the event included dinner and a live auction conducted by auctioneer Bruce Osgood.
The evening's main event, hosted by rapper and actor Sean Holland, featured performances by the association's groups — In Sync, Impressions, Sound Dogs, Gentlemen's Octet, Sirens and Out Of the Blue.
Showcasing the talent of a show choir program that is considered to be one of the best in the country, last week's event saw the school's director of vocal music, Brett Carroll, take attendees on a musical journey that delivered every bit of the magic the evening promised.
Chaired by association co-presidents Ray and Rima Shidler, the event was enjoyed by more than 300 guests including Burbank High Principal Mike Bertram, organization board members Teri Chubin, Ellie Stockwell, Charles Rodriguez, Penny Zambrano and Glenda McQuown, CMP Entertainment Group President Craig Murray, and actor Shawn Stevens of “Days of Our Lives” and “The MacKenzies of Paradise Cove.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit the school's vocal music program that would not be able to exist without the commitment of fundraising, individual supporters and corporate sponsors.
