Community: Volunteers helping Salvation Army

Share

The bell-ringing competition is on!

Service club members will be stationed at Salvation Army red kettles in front of stores throughout the city encouraging large donations to the organization during the holidays. The club that raises the most earns the Red Kettle Trophy.

This Salvation Army’s fundraiser has been held since 1891, providing food and social services for the underprivileged around the world.

The Burbank Salvation Army Community Center needs volunteers for the Angel Tree Project. The tree is on the third floor of the Burbank Town Center, by the Burlington Coat Factory. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day until Dec. 21.

Donors pick a card from the tree that lists the suggested gift for a child. The unwrapped gift must be returned to the Angel Tree by Dec. 20 or brought to the Burbank Salvation Army by Dec. 21. Recipients’ names are provided through community centers, social service programs and other organizations.

Volunteers are needed to greet the donors and collect the gifts. They are assigned two-hour shifts, any time they are available, including weekends.

To volunteer for the Angel Tree, call Elaine Paonessa at (818) 845-6851 or to adopt a family, help pack and deliver food boxes or contribute financially, call Carlos Figueroa at (818) 845-7214.
