Community: Concert feast is Shakespeare

Share

The Burbank Chorale will honor William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday with its program titled “If Music be the Food of Love” scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Burbank First United Methodist Church.

Kyrian Corona, chorale president, said the program will range in genres from madrigals to works by George Shearing, Ralph Vaughn Williams and John Rutter, along with a medley from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein.

The chorale has its own Romeo and Juliet story, Corona said, minus its tragic ending. Artistic Director Mikhail Shtangrud is married to the chorale’s accompanist Anna Krendel.

They met on a music job and have been making beautiful music together ever since, Corona said.

Another interesting tie-in to the theme is that chorale member Silvia Pompei, an animator for “The Simpsons,” once worked on an episode that had Homer Simpson portraying Hamlet.
