They’re red-y for some football

While the foliage of Burbank does little to colorfully announce the arrival of fall, Johnny Carson Park was ablaze in vivid red as the John Burroughs High School Arrowhead Club presented their 24th annual car show this past Sunday. This yearly event, which benefits the Burroughs football programs, offers up a perfect welcome for fall by presenting a day of all-American classics — cars, rock ’n’ roll, hamburgers, hot dogs and the opportunity to mingle with members of the school’s football teams and cheerleading squads.

Throughout the day, members of the Road Kings joined classic-car owners from throughout the region to both show and admire more than 100 vehicles of varying vintage. Among the car owners who participated in Sunday’s show were James Watson, Frany Nay, Joel Embick, Dennis Welsh, Terry Tait, Trudi Sustayta, Ray Clark, Michael Seeley, Edward Tucker, Mike Tomei, Dale Nohre, Dave Button, Ken Sapper, Pete Rios, Jess Hudee, Patty Kemple and Ron and Marianne Czerniak.

After a lackluster start that has seen the Indians drop their first three games to Saugus, Hart and Canyon Country, Coach Keith Knoop is quick to remind everyone that his team was also 0-3 last year before going on to win a share of the Pacific League Championship. Indian players in attendance at Sunday’s show included Hugo Alaya, Zander Anding, Danny Ayala, Jose Bandala, Ernesto Barraza, Joseph Bautista, Damian Beltran, Oharjee Brown, Andrew Cervantez, Luke Coblentz, Ermar Cruz, David Disteano, Cristobal Escobar, Steven Escoboza, Gus Ferrat, Eric Flores, Jake Gnasso, Jario Gomez, Jason Hamm, Zack Hartman, Kody Jensen, Sean Johnson, Michael Kim, Connor Kramme, Gabriel Lacayo, Sidney Larin, Thomas Liro, Daniel Marbach, Raul Martinez, Chad McDonald, Jason Monsalve, Israel Montes, Ike Nwachie, Gonzalez Oscar, Eli Peppmuller, Jose Pereyra, Alejandro Perez, Januar Ponce, Lester Quintana, Marcos Ramirez, Charles Rodriguez, Matt Saavedra, Forrest Stevens, Caylor Strovas, Adam Velasco, Jorge Villa, Joseph Wallace and Elliot Whitecotton.

Among those who enjoyed the day and rocked to the classic sounds of Rio Bravo were Tony Wade, Kristy Carnegie, Hepzibeth Pardo, Deborah Beiter, Carmen Isabel Beaumont, Christy-Jo Klocki, Carl Jay Fenton, Charlene Tabet, Sonnie Monsalve, Brogan Alonzo, Tina Stenson Ross, April Russo, Tami Burgess, Steve Smith, Ted Joneson, David De Santis, Jake and Sonia Poole, Donald Randell, Scott Bear Osborne, Ramiro Quinonez, Jondi Velarde, Shannon Brinkerhoff, Ted Joneson, Adrian Iniguez, Monika Maldonado, Meaghan Hughes, Theresa Lueck-Brinkerhoff, Susan Rudler, James Fanning, Justin Day, Rick Linstrom, Shirley Broger, Mireya Santos, Zac Graston, Susan Pratt Vannoy, Kit Cameo, Alejandro Pardo, Cathy Linstrom, Kimmie Rayburn, David Pardo, Michelle Stevens and Meira Topol-Schrader.

The Indians’ home field, Memorial Stadium, is in the midst of a $12-million renovation that will include Cusumano Plaza to honor the local family of real estate developers who have made the single largest private donation to the project. The new stadium is slated for completion in February.
