Media City Ballet event kicks off 10th season

Media City Ballet kicks off its 10th season with “Encore! An Evening of Dining and Ballet” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Chevy Chase Country Club, 3067 E. Chevy Chase Drive, Glendale.

Dance legends of the Ballet Russes and the community and business leaders who have supported the ballet company through the past decade will be honored. There will be a champagne reception followed by an evening of dining, festivities and ballet performances.

Elmarie Wendel, actress from “3rd Rock from the Sun,” “George Lopez” and “General Hospital,” is the host. The master of ceremonies is Dan Roebuck, a well-known actor and producer who recently appeared on “Lost” and “CSI: Miami.”

Four legendary dancers of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo — Patricia Peters Doyle, Paul Maure, Andrei Tremaine and Dorothy Matise Wade — will be honored for their artistic support and direction they have provided over the past decade.

Additional honors will be given to Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich for his support of the organization and the arts in Los Angeles as a member of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Media City Ballet will also recognize Andre van Niekerk, dean of the Business School at Woodbury University, for his support and professional advice over the past decade. This event is sponsored in part by Party Perfection.

Arts for All presents creativity event

Burbank Arts for All will present a “Celebrating Creativity 2010,” an evening of dance, music and art, at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Colony Theatre in Burbank to benefit visual and performing arts education in Burbank public schools.

The performers are Lineage Dance Company and Burbank Unified School District students. The event begins with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception, silent auction and a variety of live music performed by students.

At 7:30 p.m. on the Colony stage, Lineage Dance will present “The Brain in Motion: A Fun and Fascinating Journey into the Art of the Mind.” This contemporary performance will feature original music by John Guth with choreography by Lineage Dance Artistic Director Hilary Thomas. Woven through the program will be a series of provocative stories narrated by student actors. In addition, student artists will simultaneously create — live and onstage — expressive paintings that explore the magic of the human mind.

Tickets are $50 each for the general public and $25 each for students, seniors and teachers (with ID). Tickets can be purchased at https://www.BurbankArtsforAll.org. A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door. Alll proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit arts education in Burbank schools.
