The Colony Theatre gets an encore
Like many theaters across the country, the Colony in Burbank has experienced a lot of discomfort during these tough economic times, but it revealed a bit of good news this week: Its production of “Falling for Make Believe” will continue beyond its scheduled closing after a brief hiatus. Due to high ticket demand, the musical biography of the lyricist Lorenz Hart returns June 6.
Playwright Mark Saltzman built the story around popular hits from the Rodgers and Hart songbook, including the standards “My Funny Valentine,” “Blue Moon,” “Falling in Love with Love” and “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.” Aside from the music, the play explores the difficult personal life of Hart, forced to live a closeted life as a homosexual while suffering from depression and alcoholism before dying at age 48.
