Obituary: Charlotte Baughman

Former Burbank resident Charlotte Baughman died Thursday at her home in Fallbrook. She was 89.

She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Woodbine, Iowa, the daughter of Carroll and Eva Rankin.

She married Adlebert (Bert) Baughman Sept. 20, 1941, in Las Vegas. They lived in their Burbank home for more than 43 years and raised two daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984.

In 1952, Charlotte Baughman led the first Horizon Club group in the country, sponsored by Camp Fire Girls of America. Girls from the high schools in Burbank were guided to identify their own values, goals and morals, plan for college and acquire job skills.

Charlotte Baughman owned the Garret custom interior design store in Burbank for 25 years, beginning in 1960. She was also active in Burbank National Charity League, Kiwanis of Burbank, and helped lead Camp Fire Girls groups.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Custer and Julie Baughman; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
