Authorities are investigating a false threat against John Burroughs High School that was shared on social media from a fake Burbank Unified School District Instagram account.

In a statement sent to parents on Monday, Supt. Matt Hill said the post was taken down and the district is working with the Burbank Police Department to find who made the fake account.

“These types of threats are unlawful, regardless of intention, and may result in serious criminal and civil consequences that include possible financial restitution for hours spent on investigations,” he said.

While the exact nature of the threat is not known, Burbank Lt. Gerry Misquez said there was nothing to indicate it had any credibility.

Classes at Burroughs High were not affected by the fake threat, according to the district.
