Coroner’s officials identify two Burbank residents killed in weekend traffic collisions

Coroner’s officials on Monday identified two Burbank residents killed in separate traffic incidents over the weekend.

A 43-year-old man, identified as Kevin Leroy Binkley, was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle, hit a curb and rammed into a parked vehicle early Saturday morning, said Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.

Blunt trauma was ruled as the cause of death, he added.

When officers arrived, they found Binkley partially trapped under an unoccupied vehicle parked along the south curb of Riverside Drive, east of Gaylord Drive.

The following morning, a 76-year-old woman, identified as Violeta Duran Hwang, was killed after she was struck by a delivery van while crossing the street at Victory Boulevard and Hollywood Way.

The driver, a 51-year-old Burbank resident, was making a right turn from southbound Hollywood Way onto westbound Victory Boulevard around 7:25 a.m. when the car struck Hwang, who was walking eastbound on Victory, crossing Hollywood Way.

Hwang was transported to a hospital, where she died of her injuries. She was pronounced dead at 9:17 a.m., Winter said.

The driver, who remained at the scene and cooperated with police, was not cited or charged, said Burbank Police Officer Cindy Guillen. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed either incident is asked to call Burbank police at (818) 238-3100.
