Former Burroughs High employee pleads not guilty of alleged sexual relations with students

A former John Burroughs High School employee pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges that he had sexual relationships with two female students, officials said.

Glendale resident Clarke Surrey, 23, was charged with 10 counts of oral copulation of a minor and one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Four of those counts stem from a relationship with one student between April 2011 and December 2014, while the remaining seven counts stem from a relationship with another student from May to November of 2014, according to the criminal complaint. Both students have since graduated.

Surrey was 19 when the first alleged relationship began.

At the time, he was employed as the assistant technology director for the theater technology group at Burroughs, according to Burbank Police Sgt. Adam Cornils.

The girls were between the ages of 15 and 17 when the alleged offenses occurred, Cornils said.

Surrey is due back in court next month.
