Burbank police investigating whether pair of shootings are related

Police this week were investigating a gang shooting in a Burbank neighborhood, two weeks after another shooting was reported roughly half a mile away, authorities said.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

At around 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1200 block of South Lake Street, about a block away from the Glendale border.

Witnesses had seen a man with a gun confront two other men walking north on Lake Street, according to Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco. They exchanged gang names and insults before the armed man fired a handgun toward the two others.

The men, who have not been identified, subsequently ran from the scene. A description of the suspect was not available.

Detectives are investigating whether the shooting is related to another one reported around the same time of day about two weeks ago.

In the evening on Aug. 4, witnesses reported seeing a man get out of the passenger side of a car parked on Lake Street near Verdugo Avenue before firing multiple shots from a handgun and getting back in the car.

The car was last seen heading westbound on Verdugo Avenue.

Anyone with information about either shooting can call Burbank Police Det. Henry Garay at (818) 238-3210. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
