The man who barricaded himself in a stolen car for more than two hours in downtown Burbank Tuesday afternoon was identified as a 28-year-old from Burbank, police said.

Brandon Degourville was charged with one count each of burglary, grand theft auto, unlawful driving of a vehicle and battery on a peace officer this week after he reportedly refused to exit the car when he was pulled over at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday near Third Street and Magnolia Boulevard.

Burbank’s crisis negotiators, along with the city’s SWAT and mental-health evaluation teams, had attempted to convince Degourville to get out of the car, but he did not comply, police said.

Police eventually shot a chemical irritant inside the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of West Los Angeles on Monday, said Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz.

After the chemical irritants were deployed, Degourville began throwing his clothes out of the car.

He eventually exited in just his red boxer shorts. Police reportedly subdued him with less-lethal munition after he failed to comply with police commands.

Degourville was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

He has a prior criminal history that includes a conviction for disturbing the peace in February 2008, burglary in February 2007 and receiving stolen property in April 2006.

Degourville is being held in lieu of $140,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County jail records. He is due in court next week.
