JOSEPH JUSTO BOTANA

Joseph J. Botana, 91, died Nov. 12, 1999 at Providence St. Joseph

Medical Center.

Mr. Botana was born in Spain. In his teens, he was a New York State

boxing champion and a contender for the U.S. featherweight championship.

He was a longtime Burbank resident. He operated the supper club La

Paradiso on Riverside Drive from 1954 to 1965 and was also a developer.

The club was a local landmark and frequent destination of Jack Warner and

Warner Bros. stars including James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock

Hudson.

Mr. Botana is survived by his sons Ray and Joe Jr.; daughters Joanne,

Samantha McConnell and Milly Grimes; and five grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. at St.

Finbar Catholic Church.

The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made to the Diabetes

Foundation.
