Second annual toy drive to be held for ill children

BURBANK -- After recovering from a brain tumor, 10-year-old Annali
Kingston organized the first toy drive last year.
During the planning, her mother, Lisa Smith, discovered she also had a
brain tumor.
Now recovered, both mother and daughter will be hosting the second
annual toy drive from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at Pickwick Ice Center,
1001 Riverside Drive.
Toys that are collected will be distributed Thursday at Childrens
Hospital Los Angeles to kids with brain tumors, cancer, AIDS, leukemia
and other life-threatening illnesses, organizers said.
New and unwrapped toys -- preferably of the craft, game, doll and
coloring book variety -- will be accepted. Last year’s drive netted 110
toys.
Skaters who bring toys will receive a $3 discount on skate rentals.
