OBITUARIES
MELVIN K. FARISS
Melvin K. Fariss, 86, died Dec. 22, 1999, in Glendale.
Mr. Fariss was born in Spokane, Wash., and lived in Burbank for six
years. After serving in World War II, he worked as a salesman for IBM for
25 years.
A member of the Burbank/Glendale Rotary Club and American Field
Service, Mr. Fariss hosted several foreign exchange students and
sponsored students at his alma mater, Whitworth College in Spokane.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; sons, James and Donald; daughter,
Marjory Fariss; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian
Church of Burbank. Interment is private at Grand View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Whitworth
College or to First Presbyterian Church of Burbank.
BRUCE L. SCOTT
Bruce L. Scott, 64, died Dec. 21, 1999, at his Burbank home.
Mr. Scott was born in South Dakota and lived in Burbank for 27 years.
He was a self-employed engineer for 39 years.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Burbank; son, Joe; daughters,
Susan and Jill; and two grandsons.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park,
Hollywood Hills. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
ANTHONY MARTIN KNEIP
Anthony Martin Kneip, 89, died Dec. 24, 1999, in Burbank.
Mr. Kneip was born in St. Louis and lived in Burbank for 55 years. He
owned Tony’s Uniform for 30 years. Mr. Kneip belonged to the Knights of
Columbus for 50 years and to the Holy Name Society for 40 years. He was a
Dodgers season ticket holder since 1963 and one of the first Eucharist
ministers for St. Finbar and St. Patrick churches.
He is survived his sons Bob, Pat and Tom; daughter Kathy Mirolla; 12
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruby.
A vigil and funeral Mass were held Monday at St. Finbar Church.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. today at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American
Cancer Society.
ROSE MARIE SMITH
Rose Marie Smith, 89, died Dec. 22, 1999, in a Sylmar hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born in New York. She lived in Burbank for 80 years.
She was a baker at Grandma’s Bakery for 25 years.
She is survived several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary
Cemetery. Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Service is in charge of the
arrangements.
YOUSEF ASLANIAN
Yousef Aslanian, 73, died Dec. 19, 1999, in a Burbank hospital.
Mr. Aslanian was born in Russia. He was a Burbank resident for 10
years. He was a maintenance supervisor with Omega for eight years, prior
to retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughter, Anna; and sons, Rod and
Sam.
Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Holiday Hills.
