MEDIA DISTRICT NORTH -- A fire at the Janco Corp. building in the 3100
block of Winona caused more than $1 million in damage to the structure
and machines inside, officials said.
The fire, which was reported at 4:30 a.m. Feb. 26, was caused by a
malfunction in a metal-cutting machine, said Capt. Bob Reinhardt, arson
investigator for the Burbank Fire Department The fire caused about
$75,000 damage to the building and $1 million in damage to the two
specialized metal-cutting machines inside.
Fire officials also responded to a fire Wednesday night in the 400
block of Flower Street, at Artisan Brass Products. Reinhardt said rags
soaked with linseed oil spontaneously combusted at 7:35 p.m. in a
cardboard box, causing a fire that burned a plywood board that was
connected to electrical panels. The panels shorted out and power to the
building was shut off, Reinhardt said.
