BURBANK -- For the La Canada and Burbank high baseball teams’, scoring

really hasn’t been the problem this year.

Instead, it’s been their inability to hold the opposition scoreless.

However, when the two teams met on Monday, it was anything but a

problem for the Lancers, as they held a struggling Burbank team to just

one hit to help themselves blank the Bulldogs, 10-0, in a non-league game

at Burbank High.

The game was called after six-innings due to the ten-run mercy rule.

“Im really pleased with the way we played today,” said La Canada Coach

Dan Cowgill.

“In our other games we usually fell apart in one part of ourgame be

it hitting or defense. But today we played complete in just about every

area.”

Burbank Coach Doug Ferber who’s team fell to 1-4 in the loss was

little upset.

“I’m dissapointed with the way we’re playing right now,’ he said.

“We couldn’t hit the ball and our pitching was really off. “We’re

playing very flat as a team right now and it’s not what I had expected.”

La Canada didn’t take long to get going and after a walk an error and

two hits in the first inning, they grabbed a quick 3-0 lead.

The score held until the third, when Brandon Butcher laced a single

into center to score a run and get the Lancer lead to 4-0.

They extended it even further in the fifth when they put together a

four run inning on just three hits to get their lead to 8-0. In the

inning Raul Perez hit his first homerun of the season, an opposite field

shot to right.

The Lancers (2-3) eventually went on to score two more runs in the

sixth inning to get the score to 10-0, and that was that.

Leading the Lancers in the game was starting pitcher Jesse Hurdler who

went five innings, allowing just one hit, an infield single, while

striking out six to earn the win.

Steve Bell and Butcher also had solid games for La Canada.

Both players finished the game 3-for-3 with an RBI each.

Burbanks only highlight of the game came in the fifth, when Rey

Sanchez beat out a grounder to short for the Bulldog’s only hit of the

game. LaCanada...3 0 1 0 4 2 -- 10 10 2
