BURBANK -- There was no gender bias this weekend at the Burbank Moose
Lodge.
Men and women off all ages took part in the International Classic &
American Powerlifting Federation California State Powerlifting and Bench
Press Championship at the facility.
Almost 100 competitors and 300 spectators were on hand for the two-day
event, which featured an array of weightlifting and strength events,
which included the bench press, deadlift and squat. “It was wonderful
to see all the people that came out,” said Nance Avigliano of Burbank’s
Los Angeles Lifting Club, which sponsored the event.
“We had two 80-year-old guys and one lifted over 200 pounds, and we
had 132-pound women who lifted 303 pounds. We even had younger lifters
who took part.”
Hosting the event was Nance and husband Joe Avigliano, who run the Los
Angeles Lifting Club on Victory Place. The gym is one of the premier
powerlifting facilities in the country, dedicated solely for
powerlifting.
“We were glad we could hold something like this,” said Nance. “We had
alot of good results.”
The event was broken down in to separate divisions for men, women and
teens.
“It was almost like two different events, with the separate California
State and Open divisions,” she said.
