Boys and Girls Club seeking mentors

MEDIA DISTRICT NORTH -- Seven hundred kids need a little help with
their reading, homework and athletic skills. They are looking to the
community to provide that help.
The Boys and Girls Club of Burbank is hoping to find dedicated
volunteers who are willing to donate at least one hour per week to
helping an at-risk child.
Mentors are needed to improve the reading skills of kids from 7 to 18.
Tutors are wanted to assist kids with homework after school.
If you like to watch sports on television, why not show the kids how
it is done, by coaching flag football in the fall, basketball in the
winter or soccer in the spring.
“They’re good kids,” program director Norberto Oropez said. “They just
need a little guidance.”
Volunteers will work in the afternoons after 3 p.m. The club is also
searching for a designer to help them it launch a Web site.
