Artist to demonstrate
landscape watercolors
MONTROSE -- With paintbrush in hand, Helen Groenekamp will demonstrate
a landscape in watercolors at the Thursday meeting of the Glendale Art
Assn.
The group meets at 7 p.m. at California Federal Bank, 2350 Honolulu
Ave., Montrose.
Groenekamp’s training started at the American Academy of Art in
Chicago. She continued art study with Stuart Hodges at Principia College.
After moving to the West, she studied at the Art Students League in Los
Angeles and took various art courses at UCLA and USC.
She quit her 16-year, full-time art teaching career in 1988 and since
then has displayed her work in many one-person exhibits and has won
numerous awards at juried shows.
Spontaneous theater
group offering laughs
BURBANK -- The Really Spontaneous Theatre Co. offers laughs beginning
at 8 p.m each Thursday at The Third Stage theater, 2811 W. Magnolia Blvd.
in Burbank.

Fright Gallery creator
shows works at arts center
BURBANK -- Burbank artist Keith Kaminski is celebrating his 40th
birthday by launching an art exhibit, “40 @ 40,” a retrospective of the
artist’s most distinctive work, at the Burbank Creative Arts Center
Gallery.
The exhibit begins with an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday
and continues through Nov. 22. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday
through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The gallery is at 1100 W.
Clark Ave., Burbank.
A Burbank native, Kaminski has a degree from Art Center College of
Design in Pasadena. He has designed themed floats for the Burbank
Tournament of Roses Assn. and has been head artist and creator of The
Fright Gallery, Burbank’s annual Halloween attraction, for more than 15
years. He is an attractions designer at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Party raises funds
for theater workshop
GLENDALE -- A fund-raising auction and party are planned to support
the Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov.
18.
Guests will bid on trips, dinners at local restaurants, theater
events, gift items and services and enjoy entertainment by workshop
members.
Tickets are $5, which will be credited toward the first item
purchased. The event will be at the workshop, 335 N. Brand Blvd.,
Glendale. For reservations, call 502-3309.
The workshop offers its participants a place to develop new musical
theater works and training for lyricists, librettists and composers.
Western Weavers club
promotes square dancing
BURBANK -- Square and round dancing are offered by the Western Weavers
square dance club from 7:30 to 10:45 p.m. the second and fourth Friday of
the month at the Little White Chapel, 1711 N. Avon St., Burbank.
Bill Horst is the caller for Friday and Deborah Carroll will call on
Dec. 8.
Glendale man’s play
now in production
HOLLYWOOD -- Write Act Repertory Co. is producing the world premiere
of “The Last Laugh,” by Glendale resident Arnold Margolin and Mady
Julian, at the Write Act Theatre at St. Stephen’s Church in Hollywood.
Margolin is the co-creator of the anthology comedy series “Love,
American Style,” for which he wrote multiple episodes and served as
executive producer. The show was nominated twice for an Emmy for
Outstanding Comedy Series, and won an Emmy for the title theme song.
Tickets are $15 on Thursdays and Sundays and $18 on Fridays and
Saturdays. For reservations, call (323) 860-8894. The play continues
through Nov. 18. The theater is at 6128 Yucca St. in Hollywood. There is
free parking on the church grounds.
