Low-cost vaccinations ready for pets

NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- Many people feel their pets are an extension of
their family, and just like any other member of the family, it’s
necessary to protect dogs and cats against harmful diseases, Burbank
Animal Shelter officials said.
To help keep pets healthy and local neighborhoods free of disease, the
Kiwanis Club of Burbank and the Southern California Veterinary Medical
Assn. will offer a low-cost clinic to vaccinate dogs and cats today at
the Burbank Animal Shelter.
Rabies, a disease that can be passed to any other warm-blooded animal,
must especially be kept under control. According to state law, all dog
owners must get the rabies vaccination for dogs 4 months or older.
Although it is not required, it can’t hurt to protect cats from rabies,
DeLange added.
In addition to rabies, the clinic will offer a six-in-one shot to
prevent other harmful diseases.
The clinic will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 1150 N. Victory. Cost for
the rabies shot is $4; the six-in-one shot is $12. For information, call
238-3340.
