NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- A 64-year-old Burbank man shot and killed

himself this week while sitting in a parked car, authorities said.

Dennis Arnold, who was parked in the 2700 block of West Burbank

Boulevard, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the

head, Burbank police Sgt. Bill Taylor said.

Burbank officers investigating a tip discovered Arnold slumped over

the wheel in the front seat of his car about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Taylor

said.

“When the officers arrived, they checked it out and found that he had

shot himself,” Taylor said. “From all apparent indications, it was

suicide.”

It was not clear whether anyone witnessed the shooting, but at least

one person called police after seeing the man bent over in the car.

Another person told police that he smashed Arnold’s car window and turned

off the ignition to try to help the man, but was too late.

What prompted the shooting is not known, Taylor said. A neighbor

reportedly told police that Arnold had some medical problems.
