‘Backside of Nowhere’ in foreground for teen girls

Midge Boardman, Weekend

GLENDALE -- Parents from 42 countries will applaud when their young

daughters log onto the teen Website, A Girl’s World, for an online chat

April 16. The teens will be talking with Glendale author Sharon Sebastian

about her homespun mystery, “Backside of Nowhere.”

Inspired by actual events, Sharon said the book “lets readers have fun

deciding what’s real and what’s not.”

Hope, romance, murder and a juke joint combine for a story of

universal truths and “characters we can identify with or who remind us of

someone we know.”

The author expects readers to ponder the actions of a confused and

tortured Mandy, to feel the pain of treating sweet, special needs child

Lilly.

“Love gives you a whole different view,” the author said.

Apparently, “Backside of Nowhere” is generating parent/teen and

grandparent/teen discussion; it has been selected as an upcoming feature

on Canadian Parents Online, Seniors.com and KoolSilver.com plus more in

other countries.

A Girl’s World, recently highlighted in USA Today as “Everything a

girl could want” and hailed by the New York Times, declares the book is a

“must read” for teen girls the world over.

In the past, the Web site’s protected members-only chat area has

hosted such role-model guests as Michelle Trachtenberg of “Buffy, the

Vampire Slayer” and R.L. Stein who penned the “Goose Bumps” series.

Writing has been Sharon’s passion since seventh grade. The University

of Houston graduate, who also attended the University of Texas, admits

she loves intrigue. In addition to books, she writes for film, television

and magazines.

She is on board for a screenplay about a former president, which will

begin as soon as funding is confirmed.

The longtime Glendale resident suggests teens read the book before

chatting with her. It’s available from 1stBooks Library, the electronic

books publisher, or in paperback at bookstores. A free excerpt can be

seen on 1stbooks.com/bookview.

Sharon has sage advice for these young people: “You’ll be a teen only

one time. You have the rest of your life to be an adult. Build character

and values now; they’ll serve you for the rest of your life.”
