Roman candles to light the skies

HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- It has been described by some as the

biggest-super-duper-you-can’t-believe-what-your-seeing fireworks show.

Or at least that’s how Burbank Fire Capt. Bob Reinhardt lovingly

referred to the city’s annual Fourth of July show, “Bursting Out with

Red, White and Blue.”

“This show more than makes up for the fact that we don’t allow

residents to do their own fireworks,” Reinhardt said.

The event, sponsored by the Burbank Park, Recreation and Community

Services Department, will feature an evening of music and fireworks at

the Starlight Bowl.

Families can enjoy big band music from the ‘30s and ‘40s played by the

Horace Heidt Jr. Orchestra, as well as performances by the All American

Boys Chorus and the Jokesters.

In addition, the Burbank Noon Lions will be collecting used eyeglasses

in a bin at the event to help the impoverished see. Last year Burbank

residents donated more than 3,000 glasses, and members of the Noon Lions

hope to exceed that number this year. The drop-off bin will be at the

front gate.

Gates open at 6 p.m. for picnicking. Music and entertainment start at

6:30 p.m. The fireworks show, which is set to music, begins at 9 p.m.

Seats on the lawn are $5, and reserved seats are available for $10, $15

and $45.
