Surfaris deliver blast from the past at Cruise Night

GLENDALE -- The original California surf band, The Surfaris, who
recorded the classic “Wipe Out” in 1963, will be the featured act
Saturday for the eighth annual Glendale Cruise Night.
Four hundred classic cars, will be on display from 6 to 10 p.m. along
Brand Boulevard from Broadway to Doran. Individuals and car club members
will be showing their vehicles whether original, restored or custom.
There will be ’32 Fords, ’56 T-Birds, ’57 Chevys, ’65 Mustangs and
others.
The Surfaris will appear on the main stage at the corner of Brand
Boulevard and Wilson Avenue. The group’s song, “Wipe Out” was not only a
No. 1 hit, but it has been heard for more than 35 years in movies and TV
commercials.
Another hit by the group was “Surfer Joe,” as well as”Scatter Shield”
and “Point Panic.”
Also featured on the main stage will be The Champs, known for the hit
“Tequila,” and the Mike Eldred Trio.
A second stage at the northern end of Brand Boulevard will feature
local acts The Mambo Combo, Ph-2 and the Rattlers.
