Officials praise change in airport legislation

AIRPORT DISTRICT -- Local elected officials have commended a decision
to modify federal legislation that could have prevented Burbank officials
from taking any action to limit growth at Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena
Airport.
U.S. Reps. Howard Berman (D-Mission Hills), Adam Schiff (D-Burbank),
Brad Sherman (D-Woodland Hills) and Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles)
announced their support for a decision to exempt Burbank airport from the
bill, HR 2107.
U.S. Rep. William Lipinski (D-Ill.), who introduced the bill back in
June, declared last week that he would revise the bill so that it applied
only to 14 major airports -- excluding Burbank’s.
The existing draft of the bill would have diminished local control
over the growth of dozens of airports across the country.
