Burbank restaurateur dies

BURBANK -- Oscar Beltran Montano died Oct. 20, 2001, in Los Angeles.

He was 66 years old.

Montano, who was born May 21, 1935, in La Paz, Baja California,

Mexico, immigrated to the United States in 1958 and was a Burbank

resident for 43 years.

For nearly 20 years, Montano was the owner of Sardo’s, a popular

restaurant and bar in the community. He had been in the restaurant

business since his arrival in the country.

Montano first tended bar at Chadney’s, then went to work as a

bartender in Sardo’s in 1974. In 1982, he and his wife Laurel bought the

restaurant.

Sardo was an avid golfer and was a charter member of the Burbank

Country Club on Wheels. The members didn’t have their own country club.

Instead, they owned a bus that took them to golf courses around Southern

California. The club members held their meetings at Sardo’s.

Montano is survived by his wife of 27 yearsm Laurel Montano;

daughters, Brooke Pandajis and Linda Montano; son, Nicholas Montano; and

five grandchildren.

“He was someone special, loved and adored by everyone he came in

contact with,” said Laurel Montano.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Church,

10800 Moorpark St., North Hollywood.

choice.
