MEDIA DISTRICT NORTH -- A Burbank man who police allege is the
“Tennis Elbow Bandit,” known for wearing a characteristic bandage
around an arm and robbing 31 area banks in the area, was arrested in
Burbank.
Terrance Lynn Miller, 47, was arrested Wednesday in a car in the
Ralphs parking lot at the corner of Buena Vista Street and Victory
Boulevard after a four-day surveillance by the FBI, LAPD, and
Glendale and Burbank police, Burbank Lt. Tim Stehr said.
He was taken into custody shortly after noon by LAPD and was being
held in a Los Angeles jail, LAPD Officer Jason Lee said. Miller was
carrying a pellet gun, Burbank Police Sgt. John Dilibert said.
“There was some indication that because of the timing of past
robberies he’d committed that this week might be a good time, so we
conducted a joint surveillance and we were very fortunate that he was
spotted by an LAPD officer so he would not commit any other
robberies,” Stehr said.
Miller is thought to be involved in 31 robberies in Burbank,
Glendale and Los Angeles, and several other local commercial
robberies from July 2000 to as recently as May. He was known for
wearing a bandage around his elbow while walking into banks,
approaching the teller, presenting a threatening note and claiming he
was armed.
He is suspected to be involved in seven bank robberies and one
shoe store heist in Burbank.
Stehr said the suspect matched the description of surveillance
photos released last year by the FBI during a press conference.
Included in the alleged heists are:
July 21, 2000: Bank of America, 3812 San Fernando Road, Glendale.
March 30, 2001: Bank of America, 3400 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.
May 23, 2001: Bank of America, 4123 W. Olive Ave., Toluca Lake.
Aug. 31, 2001: Union Bank, 3900 Alameda Ave., Burbank.
