Whether it’s a psychic in tune with the spiritual forces affecting
animals or the counseling of a dog whisperer, the Burbank Animal
Shelter might be the place to check out Saturday.
The third annual Burbank Animal Shelter Fair will be from 11 a.m.
to 4 p.m. at the shelter, 1150 Victory Place.
The free event is put on by the shelter’s volunteers and is their
major fund-raiser for the year.
“For one thing, we want to raise awareness in the community about
the volunteers and volunteer opportunities and once again show people
the Animal Shelter is part of their community,” said Eva Sippel,
president of the shelter’s volunteers.
“Secondly, we want to increase the budget of the volunteers and to
increase the adoption rate.”
The volunteers want to buy a van to take the animals to schools
and senior-care homes for public-education sessions and outreach.
Sippel said a core of seven volunteers has organized what will be
the biggest fair yet.
Along with a silent auction that includes a ticket package to
Disneyland and the attendance of several local businesses, dog-rescue
organizations such as the Burbank-based German Shepherd Rescue and
Birds First will be on hand with animals available for adoption. Dogs
and handlers from the Burbank Police Department’s K-9 unit will do
demonstrations.
For more eclectic tastes, a pet psychic will be available for
consultation with pets.
Because of the limited amount of parking at the shelter, parking
will be available on Lake Street off Victory Place, with a shuttle to
transport participants to the fair.
Admission is free.
