Providence 55, Viewpoint 54: A big basket at the end of the game

helped the Pioneers complete a comeback Friday to win the Liberty

League contest at Calabasas Viewpoint.

Armen Yousseian hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to

lift Providence (11-1, 4-0 in league).

Trailing, 44-34, after three quarters, the Pioneers outscored the

Patriots, 21-10, in the fourth quarter.

Harout Messrelian led the Pioneer charge with 22 points and Ian

Breckenridge-Jackson added 14.

Saugus 78, Burbank 45: The host Bulldogs were hampered by

inconsistent shooting -- 34% from the field -- Friday, falling in a

Foothill League opener.

Bulldog Brandon Maskell had 15 points.

After taking a 10-12 first-quarter lead, Burbank was outscored,

22-6, in the second.

Valencia 77, Burroughs 62: A shaky third quarter Friday helped

lead to the Indians’ demise in a Foothill League opening loss at

home.

Burroughs (9-6) was outscored, 24-12, in the third quarter.

Peter St. Huber came up big for Burroughs, scoring 28 points and

grabbing eight rebounds. Teammate Joey Paysinger added 16 points.

Saugus junior varsity 73, Burbank junior varsity 43: Despite 12

points from Mark Voorhis, the Bulldogs were defeated Friday in their

opening Foothill League game.

Burbank was outscored, 47-24, in the second half.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 58, Viewpoint 51: Selina Tech’s 11 points -- including

four three-pointers -- Friday helped propel the Pioneers to a Liberty

League victory at the Providence gym.

Megan Campbell poured in 15 points -- 11 in the second half -- 12

rebounds and had three blocks and Natalie Guzman had eight rebounds

and seven assists for the Pioneers (11-3, 2-1).

Down, 31-26, at the half, Tech took over and helped her team

outscore the Patriots, 32-20, in the second half.

“Selina took control and she wasn’t going to let her team get

beat,” Providence Coach Andrew Bencze said.

Providence 56, L.A. Lutheran 19: Even without two of its starters

Saturday, the Pioneers were able to come away with a nonleague win at

home.

Providence played without Natalie Guzman and Shannon Estreller,

who were nursing injuries.

The Pioneers received 15 points from Megan Campbell.

Bell-Jeff 54, Ramona Convent 30: The Guards controlled the game

from the opening tipoff Friday to earn the Sunshine League victory at

Ramona Convent.

Taking a five-point lead after the first quarter, Bell-Jeff (13-2,

4-0) outscored the Tigers, 14-2, in the second.

Jennae Peoples paced the Guard offense, tallying 21 points and 10

rebounds.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Hart 2, Burroughs 0: Burroughs couldn’t get its offense rolling

Friday, as it was defeated in a Foothill League opening match at

Hart.

Burroughs is 7-6-1.
