GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Bell Gardens 22, Burbank 12: The Bulldogs received four goals from
Jessica Ullo on Thursday in an Almont League match at Burroughs High.
“They were just better than we were,” said Burbank Coach John
Abdou, whose team is playing in the Oxnard Tournament today.
Burbank (7-4, 2-2 in league) remains in third place in league.
Bell Gardens is ranked 10th in CIF Southern Section Division I.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Saugus 62, Burroughs 30: The Centurions prevented the Indians from
posting their first Foothill League win of the season Tuesday by
defeating Burroughs at home.
Things started relatively even for the teams, as Saugus jumped out
to a 12-9 lead after the first quarter. However, Burroughs had a
horrible second quarter in which it was outscored, 24-3.
Tulyah Gaines paced the Indians with 14 points, however, the next
highest Burroughs scorers had just five points.
Canyon 54, Burbank 43: Christine Kepenekian’s 16 points weren’t
enough to save the Bulldogs on Tuesday as they were defeated in a
Foothill League game at Burbank.
The Bulldogs had trouble stopping Erica Doyle, who scored a
game-high 27 points.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Saugus 83, Burroughs 50: A slow first-half start by the Indians on
Tuesday helped the visiting Centurions build a lead and post a
Foothill League victory.
Peter St. Hubert had 11 points and Joey Paysinger added eight for
Burroughs.
Saugus came out gunning in the first half and held a 38-17 lead at
the half.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Burroughs 2, Valencia 1: Sean Lowe scored two goals Friday for the
host Indians in a Foothill League match.
Burroughs (9-7-2, 2-2-1) trailed, 1-0, before Lowe scored in the
13th and 25th minutes. Chris Leiva and Spencer Ross had assists.
Lowe leads the team with 10 goals.
Kevin Cadenas had three saves in goal for the Indians.
