Bulldogs struggle against Hart

The good news for the Burbank High girls’ basketball team is it
still has a chance to make the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
The bad news happened on the court Tuesday night, as visiting Hart
High rolled in an 80-31 Foothill League victory.
“They’ve got a great team,” Burbank Coach Ricky Hawthorne said.
“They’re well balanced and they play well together. They’re very well
coached.”
Burbank (12-11, 1-6 in league) could not stop Hart’s outside
shooting. The Indians -- ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section
Division IA -- hit 28 of 41 field goals.
“I think that’s a school record for three-pointers,” Hart Coach
Dave Munroe said. “We didn’t miss too many. You have to come out and
play hard every time out.”
Hart (17-5, 7-0) remains in the driver’s seat to capture the
Foothill League championship.
Sophomore sensation Ashlee Trebilcock got the Indians started by
scoring 15 of her 20 points in the first quarter. She also had 11
steals.
“Ashlee makes everyone so tough, because she can always find the
open player,” Munroe said of his point guard, who has been receiving
college recruiting letters since she was in sixth grade. “She’s one
of the best in the country.”
Trebilcock guarded Burbank star Christine Kepenekian during much
of the first half. Kepenekian had nine of her team-high 17 points in
the first half.
Bulldog point Roxy Quintero, who finished with 10 points, was the
only other Bulldog to score more than two points.
“Their three-pointers hurt us, but nothing inside,” Quintero
said. Hawthorne said he realizes his team’s last three league games
-- at Valencia and Canyon and at home against Burroughs -- will
determine if the team will finish among the top three squads in
league.
“The tough ones are out of the way,” Hawthorne said of Hart and
Saugus. “I’m trying to keep their confidence high. We still have a
reasonable chance to get a few more wins if we play smart.”
