Burbank Invitational moved to Burroughs

For almost three decades, the Burbank High Invitational has been a

staple spring event at Burbank High.

However, because construction on the Burbank campus has affected

the running track, this year’s meet will be held at a different venue

-- Memorial Field at Burroughs High.

The 30th annual Burbank High Invitational will be from 8:30 a.m.

to 4 p.m. March 15.

General admission is $3, and students with a school ID are free.

Burbank is the defending girls’ and boys’ varsity champions.

The event is also looking for sponsors. Any individuals or

companies wishing to be sponsors should contact Burbank Coach Darin

Wolf at 558-4777.

Bulldog basketball program barbecue

The Burbank High girls’ basketball program will be holding a

barbecue tonight from 5 to 9 at the Bulldog gym.

Along with food, there will be entertainment, music and a shooting

contest for all comers. There will also be a mid-court shooting

contest where individuals can in prizes.

The Bulldog team will also be scrimmaging a team of coaches.

Park & Rec baseball, softball signups

The Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Department is

holding signups for its spring Hap Minor Baseball and Ponytail

Softball leagues.

Registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Feb.

15 at Olive Recreation Center at 1111 W. Olive Ave.

The baseball league is open to players from kindergarten to eighth

grade and the softball league is open to athletes from kindergarten

to 12th grade.

Leagues begin next month and run through July.

Athletes to take part in L.A. Invitational

Track and field athletes from Burbank and Burroughs highs will run

Feb. 15 at the L.A. Indoor Invitational at the L.A. Sports Arena.

Bulldog senior standout distance runner Kyle Ivie will be

competing in one of the most prestigious events, the boys’ seeded

mile.

Teammate Stratos Christianakis ill be running in the boys’ two

mile, Erica McCoy is in the 500 and a boys’ 800 relay team consisting

of Ricky Hernandez, Ara Abrahamian, Rick Bennet and Aram Sahagian and

a girls’ 800 relay team of Allison Ivie, Keli Atkins, Jenna

Nalbandian and Nicole Sohl will also be competing.

For Burroughs, senior Carolyn Brown will run in the 800.
