Industry awards scholarships
BURBANK -- Charter Communications and the Southern California
Cable & Telecommunications Assn. are accepting applications for their
2003 scholarship program.
For the seventh consecutive year, scholarships ranging from $2,500
to $25,000 will be awarded to high school seniors who wish to pursue
a career in the cable and telecommunications industry.
Application forms are available by visiting the association’s Web
site at www.sccta.org. Applicants must submit an essay on their plans
for a future in this industry. Winners will be selected based on
essay composition, grade-point average, and a willingness to make a
positive contribution to their community.
Applications must be received by mail no later than 5 p.m. March
21 at the association’s office, 1070 E. Orange Grove Ave.
The scholarships will be awarded at each recipient’s high school
awards night in May.
Since the program’s inception in 1997, 30 scholarships totaling
$150,000 have been awarded.
Monte Carlo Night benefits Burroughs
HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- The John Burroughs High School Vocal Music
Assn. invites the public to attend Monte Carlo Night. The event
begins at 7 p.m. Friday in the Starlight Ballroom at The Castaway,
1250 Harvard Road.
The evening includes casino games, live music and a silent auction
with many contributions from the local business community.
A buffet dinner will be served.
All proceeds will benefit the school choirs, which will travel to
New York in March to compete in national competitions.
Reservations are required and the suggestion donation is $40 per
