Spencer Blakely Kirkwood, the son of Marty...

Spencer Blakely Kirkwood, the son of Marty and Jari Kirkwood, has

received the rank of Eagle Scout.

For his Eagle Scout project, he organized and completed his

project at Lincoln Elementary School in La Crescenta, where he and 43

volunteers removed, built, varnished and replaced benches, installed

planter borders and repainted a map of the United States on the

playing field.

He received the Arrow of Light, earned 31 merit badges and was

elected to the Order of the Arrow. When he was a patrol leader, his

patrol was the only one to earn the National Honor Patrol Award. He

received a certificate of appreciation from the Verdugo Hills Council

of Boy Scouts for utilizing his Scout skills in a “heroic endeavor.”

Spencer graduated with honors from Rosemont Middle School past

June, where he was a member of the California Junior Scholarship

Federation and the Builder’s Club. He is a freshman at St. Francis

High School.

Cathaleen Martinez of Glendale, who is a student at Hoover High

School, has been selected for membership in The National Society of

High School Scholars. The society inducts only the most outstanding

high school students and honors them for superior academic

achievement.
