Scott and Frommer are expected at nurse’s rally

State Sen. Jack Scott and Assemblyman Dario Frommer are expected to

join nurses from Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in a rally

today demanding the hospital recognize the nurse’s union.

The nurses voted by a narrow margin in September to join the

Service Employees International Union. Hospital officials appealed

the result to the National Labor Relations Board, who in January

found in favor of the nurses. Hospital officials recently filed

another appeal with the national branch of the board, a move nurses

and union leaders have called a stalling tactic.

The “Rally in the Valley” will begin at 10:45 a.m. near the corner

of Olive Avenue and Buena Vista Street. Marchers will proceed from

there to Johnny Carson Park, organizers said.

In addition to Scott and Frommer, organizers said John Connolly,

national president of the American Federation of Radio and Television

Artists, and actor Troy Evans from NBC’s “ER” are expected to attend.
