Jordan students stage fund-raiser
Amy Herman, a sixth-grader at David Starr Jordan Middle School, is
dismayed that four of her favorite teachers are among the 21 who
received preliminary termination notices March 12.
Amy and a dozen of her classmates decided to sell lemonade,
Kool-Aid and baked goods to raise money for teachers Heather Good,
Marleigh Adelstein, Chris Demore and George Velarde.
Their stand will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at 740 S.
Griffith Park Drive, across the street from Mountain View Park.
“We’re asking Pavilions and Martino’s Bakery for donations, and me
and my friends are baking some ourselves,” Amy said. “We hope to
raise about $100,000, but I don’t think we’re going to do it, but I’m
a big dreamer.”
Amy said donations are also welcome. All money will go into the
faculty account for school items.
“It won’t save teachers’ salaries,” Amy said, “but it will help a
lot.”
