Burroughs hosts annual music festival
MAGNOLIA PARK -- John Burroughs High School will host its fourth
annual music festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in the school
auditorium.
Student musicians from Burroughs and Burbank high schools, and
Jordan, Luther Burbank and John Muir middle schools will perform.
There will also be performances by students from schools in other
areas.
The public is invited to attend the free festival. Burroughs High
School is at 1920 Clark Ave. Entrance to the campus is on Parish
Place.

Fitness workshop for seniors offered
MAGNOLIA PARK -- People 55 and older who want to learn more about
nutrition, exercise and weight loss are invited to join an eight-week
program at the Joslyn Adult Center.
The class will be taught by dietician Ruth Frechman.
Registration is recommended. A $5 fee is charged for the eight
classes, which begin 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, and continue on
Saturdays through May 31, except for April 26. The workshops are at
Joslyn Adult Center, 1301 W. Olive Ave. To register, call 238-5353.

Volunteer to teach adults reading skills
HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- Volunteers are needed for the Burbank Public
Library Literacy Services’ free one-on-one tutoring for adults who
speak and understand English but read and write below a sixth-grade
level.
The first session of a 15-hour tutor workshop is from 6 to 8:30
p.m. Thursday at the Burbank Central Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd.
No experience is necessary, but volunteers must be 18 or older.

Candidates forum scheduled for today
HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- The Burbank Sunrise Kiwanis Club is
sponsoring a forum featuring school board and City Council candidates
today.
The forum is planned to help residents choose the candidates they
will vote for in Tuesday’s general election.
The free event begins at 6:45 a.m. today at the De Bell Municipal
Golf Course Clubhouse, 1500 Walnut Ave., with an opportunity to meet
the candidates. The forum starts at 7 a.m. For information, call

Register tonight for ESL classes
MEDIA DISTRICT NORTH -- New students can register for English as
Second Language classes from 6 to 8 tonight in the adult school
office at Burbank High School, 902 N. Third St.
Classes, sponsored by the Burbank Unified School District, begin
