Schiff requests funds for school violence prevention program
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) is requesting $150,000 for the city of
Burbank’s Middle School Violence Prevention Program.
Schiff made his request earlier this month before the House
Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and State.
In March 2001, the city and school district staff conducted a
survey of all Burbank middle and high school students, who were asked
to describe the three most significant issues facing them. No. 1 on
the list was the prevention of violence in schools.
Following the results of the survey, the school district assembled
a group of 26 stu- dents to develop a Youth Solution Summit to make
recommendations from their perspective on ways to prevent student
violence. In response to the report, the district created the Middle
School Violence Prevention Program.
