Parents to protest school cuts

Elementary school parents will rally in front of City Hall before

Thursday’s school board meeting to protest teacher and program cuts

proposed throughout the district.

Parents from Bret Harte, McKinley, Roosevelt, Stevenson and

Washington elementary Schools will rally beginning an hour before the

start of the 6 p.m. board meeting, said Niki Capshaw, a Roosevelt

parent. School board member-elect Paul Krekorian is also expected to

participate in the rally.

Capshaw organized a similar rally earlier this month at Teddy Bear

Park adjacent to Roosevelt that was attended by state Sen. Jack Scott

(D-Burbank). Scott called the gathering “grass-roots democracy in

action.”

City Hall is at 275 E. Olive Ave.
