Tickets on sale for Dodger Night

BURBANK -- Tickets are now on sale for the city’s 12th annual

outing to Dodger Stadium.

This year’s Dodger Night will be at 7:10 p.m. May 17, when the

team takes on the Florida Marlins. Burbank residents will serve as a

color guard and sing the national anthem. The mayor, who will be

elected Thursday by other council members, will throw out the first

pitch to the vice mayor, organizers said.

Tickets for the event are $10 and orders must be received by May

9. They are available at the City Hall Annex, 301 E. Olive Ave.; Burbank Water and Power, 164 W. Magnolia Blvd.; and the Burbank

Chamber of Commerce, 200 W. Magnolia Blvd. For $7, citizens can also

purchase tickets for round-trip bus service from Olive Recreation

Center.

Burroughs student is a problem solver

NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- A John Burroughs High School freshman has

earned an invitation to an international problem-solving competition

after finishing first in a state event.

Joel Newman won his division at the California Future Problem

Solving Program on Saturday at Luther Burbank Middle School.

A total of 30 local middle and high school students competed

individually or as part of a team. A Luther Burbank team finished

second in the competition, during which participants were given a

future scenario to familiarize themselves with and then asked to

formulate solutions, organizers said.

Newman advances to an international competition in June in

Connecticut.
