Deborah Greene Nguyen, a 1994 graduate of Crescenta Valley High

School, received her doctorate in pharmacology from the School of

Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Her research in the field of HIV reproduction has been published

in the European Journal of Immunology. She earned her bachelor’s

degree in biochemistry from Cal State L.A.

Deborah was married to Dzung H. Nguyen of Pennsylvania, who also

received his doctorate in pharmacology, in April 2001 at the Church

of the Lighted Window in La Canada-Flintridge.

Philip Allen of Glendale, a member of Boy Scout Troop 303

sponsored by St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church, received

the rank of Eagle Scout. His parents are Mark Allen and Emily

Bergman.

For his Eagle project, he created five papier-mache animals for

the Los Angeles Zoo Animal Enrichment program.

He has received the Order of the Arrow and Bronze Palm.

He is a junior at Glendale High School where he is a member of the

California Scholastic Federation, Latin Club and marching band

assistant drum major.

He plays first chair in the Cal State L.A. Honor Band.

Allen plans to become a veterinarian and working toward that

career he is an intern at the La Canada Pet Clinic.

Janine Leigh Walters, 22, graduated with honors from Arizona State

University. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

A Burbank native, Walters attended Jefferson Elementary, John Muir

Middle and Burbank High schools. She graduated from Burbank High

School in 1999, where she participated as a varsity cheerleader and

varsity soccer team captain. She has accepted a position in Oncology

Nursing at the new Scottsdale Shea Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz.,

where she will begin her nursing career starting in June.
