Burbank’s new sweet 16
A crowd estimated between 2,000 and 3,000 turned out Wednesday
evening to help celebrate the grand opening of AMC Theatres’ new
16-screen complex on Palm Avenue.
Hollywood celebrities, city officials, residents and others
sampled food and got glimpses of their favorite celebrities as part
of a block party and film tribute featuring actor Kevin Bacon.
Bacon, wife Kyra Sedgwick and a host of other actors, including
James Cromwell, Donna Mills, Gordon Clapp and Ed Begley Jr., were on
hand for the red-carpet benefit, which raised an estimated $80,000
for Earth Communications Office, an environmental action group, and
the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank. Bacon, Mayor Stacey Murphy and
others helped tear an oversized ticket while being showered with
confetti to commemorate the official opening of the AMC Entertainment
Village. Afterward, attendees viewed 12 of Bacon’s movies, including
“Diner,” “Footloose” and “Animal House.”
The theater complex opened to the public at 12:01 a.m. Friday with
screenings of “The Hulk.”
